Those who have held an initial license for less than two years on first renewal is exempt from CE. Producers who add LOAs are required to complete the accompanying CE before the next renewal period. Hawaii also frequently issues waivers to requests from producers such as those on active military duty or undergoing chronic illness.
If the licensee is within 30 days of your Hawaiian resident insurance license, they can renew their license online if they have gotten up to date on your CE. After 30 days but within a year, they can renew subject to a reactivation fee. After 366 days, they will need to reapply as a new licensee, complete with a new insurance exam and everything.

Hawaii Implements New Transaction Type to Process Primary Name Updates
Effective October 11, 2024, Hawaii will Implement new transaction types to process Name Change (Demographics) updates.
Hawaii Terminating Appointments Issued By Mistake
Effective ~~August 7, 2024~~, Hawaii will be terminating 4,100 Hawaii carrier appointments. It was discovered that appointments were migrated from a legacy system giving producers lines of authority they've never held. Update: August 8, 2024 - The update that Hawaii planned to make on August 7, 2024, is now planned for August 8, 2024.
Hawaii Makes Resident and Nonresident Reinsurance Intermediary-Manager and TPA Changes
On July 19, 2024, Hawaii made changes to the requirements that were effective on June 21, 2024 for resident and nonresident reinsurance intermediary-manager and third-party administrator licenses. The Commissioner may require a reinsurance intermediary-manager to provide any report required by the Commissioner. Before a Third-Party Administrator license is issued, the administrator must file with the Commissioner and maintain a $100,000 surety bond for the first licensing biennial, and at least $300,000 for every subsequent license renewal.
Hawaii Issues Declaration from the State Insurance Commissioner Regarding Assistance of Nonresident Independent Adjusters in Response to the August 8, 2023 Maui Island Wildfire

Hawaii Issues Declaration Regarding Assistance of Nonresident Independent Adjusters
Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes (“HRS”)§ 431:9-201(b), Insurance Commissioner Gordon I. Ito is issuing this declaration authorizing temporary assistance of nonresident independent adjusters due to fires across the State. The Insurance Commissioner has decided to allow nonresident independent adjusters to operate in the State temporarily to help handle the amount of work due to the fires. The Insurance Commissioner wants to ensure that adjusters and insurance companies can and will timely respond to property owners’ needs. See attachment for full details.
Hawaii Adding Changes to Underlying License and Line of Authority Requirements
Effective September 15, 2023, new validations will be added for Hawaii to ensure underlying license and line of authority requirements are met. Life Settlement Broker must have a current license for at least one year as an Insurance Producer with a line of authority of ‘Life’ in Hawaii. Hawaii Contact Change Request Updates and Appointments and Terminations
Effective June 9th, 2023, Hawaii will allow applicants with no active resident license to electronically submit Contact Change Requests. Additionally, Appointer/Carrier FEIN will be mandatory for Appointments and Terminations

Hawaii Application Expiration Date Extended
Those with a Hawaii application expiration date of December 16, 2022, will be extended to December 21, 2022, due to a system update needed.
Hawaii Appointments Update
During the SBS switch, Hawaii had an issue with migration for some Personal Lines and Surety appointments. Those appointments have been migrated back over to SBS.
Hawaii to Convert to State Based Systems
Beginning on November 8, 2022, through November 16, 2022, Hawaii will be completing the State Based Systems conversation and will be shut off.
Hawaii Introducing New Training Requirements
Beginning January 1, 2023, Hawaii will amend its training requirements to include a 4 credit training course and an additional one credit course.
Hawaii Removing Marine Transportation, Personal Lines, Surety, and Vehicle LOAs if Property and Casualty is Held
Effective Immediately, Hawaii will remove Marine Transportation, Personal Lines, Surety, and Vehicle LOAs if that licensee also holds a Property and Casualty LOA. This applies for both resident and nonresidents.
Hawaii Includes Marine Transportation, Personal Lines, Surety, and Vehicle LOAs when License Includes Property and Casualty
Resident and nonresident producer licenses that had the LOAs previously separated will no longer see those LOAs (MA, PL, SU, and VE) and only see P&C. There will be no changes to LOAs listed on licenses that have only PL or SU LOAs.
Hawaii Requires Reinstatement Fees to be Requested Electronically
As of March 21, 2022, Hawaii will require all reinstatements (nonrenewals or licenses surrendered within one year of inactivation) to be handled electronically. Checks will not be accepted.
Hawaii Announces Changes to Resident Producers Insurance Continuing Education Timelines
Hawaii announces a new timeline for completion of Continued Education courses. All active resident PROs (new or existing) must complete CE credit requirements before their renewal date. Additionally, if a new line of authority is added to a PRO's active license, the licensee must complete all required CE credit hours.
