Resident producers over the age of 60 that have held a license for at least 20 consecutive years are exempt. Resident producers over the age of 55 that held your license for at least 25 consecutive years are exempt. A Resident Adjuster may bypass the written examination if they pass a proctored exam and fulfill any other requirements for the Department of Business Regulation.

Rhode Island Starts Displaying More License Classes on the Producer Database
Effective February 6th, 2025, Rhode Island will display the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Limited) on the Producer Database.
Rhode Island Life Settlement Provider Fee Update
Effective November 25, 2025, Rhode Island made the following fee change for residents and nonresidents. Life Settlement Provider - Old Fee - Initial license fee: $1,000.00 - Annual fee (filed with annual report): $1,000.00 - - New Fee - Initial license: $1,000.00 - Annual fee (filed with annual report): $500.00
Rhode Island Appointment Expiration Dates Updates
Effective January 15, 2025, Rhode Island will be updating approximately 76,000 Rhode Island appointment expiration dates from March 1, 2026, to January 31, 2026. All future 2025 appointments will automatically be set for January 31, 2026, going forward. Update: Due to technical problems, these expiration dates will populate tomorrow (January 16, 2025)
Rhode Island Title Appointment and Termination Processing Electronically
Effective February 14, 2025, Rhode Island will allow the Title license class to be appointed and terminated electronically. The Rhode Island Insurance Division expects all active title licensee appointments to be submitted electronically by February 28, 2025.
Rhode Island Amendment Fee Removed
Effective February 14, 2025, Rhode Island will update their amendment fee (LOA addition) from $50 to $0. This change is for Business Entities and individuals for: Resident, Nonresident, and No Home State applications. As well as Nonresident Adjusters applications for individuals.

Rhode Island Adjuster CE Requirements
On August 22, 2024, Rhode Island posted a bulletin regarding Adjuster Continuing Education requirements which will be effective May 28, 2024. The Department is implementing continuing education for insurance claim adjusters who will be required to complete twenty-one (21) general credits and three (3) ethics credits. Rhode Island to Implement Electronic Producer Appointments
On July 3, 2024, Rhode Island announced that effective January 2025, they will be implementing electronic producer appointments via NIPR. More details to be announced.
Rhode Island Issues Bulletin Insurers Regarding Expected Courtesies
On February 6, 2024, Rhode Island issued a bulletin to inform property and casualty insurers that certain courtesies are expected of adjusters and insurers while interacting with claimants or their legal representative during the claims process. See attachment for full details.

Rhode Island to Update Business Rule for Applying For Adjuster License
Effective September 13, 2023, Rhode Island is updating business rules related to applying for an adjuster license as follows: - Applicants that have an active resident producer (non-adjuster) license and no active resident adjuster may not apply for an adjuster (non-public adjuster) license using the resident producer (non-adjuster) license. \*Note: Public Adjusters will be treated as Producers - Adjuster Designated Home State applicants cannot submit both a residence and business address in Rhode Island.
Rhode Island to Add an Update to Non-Uniform Question Requirement
Effective July 13, 2023, Rhode Island Non-Uniform Question for veteran status has been updated for the Resident Licensing Renewal application.
Rhode Island to Add Defer Rule for Emergency Class for No Home State Applicants
Effective June 9, 2023, Rhode Island will defer all Emergency Class applications. All No Home State applications containing Emergency Adjuster and Emergency Motor Vehicle Appraisers will be deferred to the state for review.
Rhode Island to Remove requirement for Bond Filing
Effective May 12, 2023, Rhode Island will remove a requirement for bond filing. Surplus Line Broker will no longer require submitting a certificate from the General treasurer that the resident Broker has filed the required bond.
