Rhode Island Makes Resident and Nonresident Adjuster Licenses
Effective May 28, 2024, Rhode Island Department of Insurance made the following changes for residents and nonresident adjuster licenses.
Nonresident
Added conditions under which nonresident adjusters are exempt from CE requirements.
- Nonresident adjusters are exempt from CE if they complete their home state's CE requirements and that state gives credit to Rhode Island residents on the same basis.
- This exemption is only available if the adjuster's resident or designated home state and that state's database records or those records maintained by the NAIC, its affiliates or subsidiaries, indicate that the adjuster is licensed in good standing. This exemption only applies to the same line(s) of authority issued by the resident or designated home state.
Added an additional way that the Department may place on probation, suspend, revoke, refuse to issue, refuse to renew a license, levy an administrative penalty: ‘Failing to complete CE requirements’
Resident
- Adjusters must complete 24 CE hours, including 3 hours of ethics, per biennial license period.
- An adjuster is exempt from the CE requirements if the adjuster is:
- Not licensed for 1 full year prior to the end of the CE biennium; or
- A nonresident adjuster who has met all of his/her home state CE requirements and that state gives credit to Rhode Island residents on the same basis.
Added an additional way that the department may suspend, revoke, refuse to issue, refuse to renew a license, levy an administrative penalty due to ‘Failing to complete CE requirements’
