Mississippi Viatical Settlement Providers General Requirements
Effective April 09, 2026, Mississippi updated the fee for getting a Certificate of Authority as a resident and nonresident. The original fee was $25; this fee has been increased to $50. The general requirements for Viatical settlement providers, representatives, and brokers have been updated.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
- No person may act as a viatical settlement provider, viatical settlement representative or viatical settlement broker without a license.
- Licenses are renewed annually on January 1. Renewal fees are the same as the application fees. Failure to pay the fees by the renewal date results in expiration of the license.
- The privilege tax (license fee) for a viatical settlement provider is $200 payable annually on January 1.
- A viatical settlement representative must be appointed by a licensed viatical settlement provider or licensed viatical settlement broker.
- The privilege tax (license fee) for viatical settlement representative or broker is $50. Term of license is January - January. A 50% penalty will be assessed if the license is not renewed by the due date.
- Certificate of authority fee (appointment) is $50.
- The license issued must be for a life authority.
- Nonresident applicants must file one of the following with Commissioner:
- A written designation of an agent for service of process; or
- A written irrevocable consent that actions against the applicant may be commenced by service of process on the Commissioner.
