If your TX DHS adjuster license has expired and you apply for a producer license, note that the Texas Department of Insurance imposes penalties for each month the adjuster license remains active without the required continuing education. Your producer license application will stay pending until you complete the necessary education, pay a $500 late renewal fine, and reinstate your TX DHS license, regardless of whether you plan to keep it.

Posted February 10, 2025, Texas has pushed a code change to no longer require zero reports for Surplus Lines Agents and Agencies. Note, Surplus Lines Insurers still must report. Please see the attachment for more information.
Texas Department of Insurance Amends Denial Hearing Timeline
Effective October 14, 2024, Texas Department of Insurance amended outdated laws and has revised the timeline for setting up a hearing with the Department. If an applicant’s application for a license or certificate of authority is denied, the person will have 30 days from the date of denial to make a written request for a hearing. Please see the attachment for more information.

Texas To Raise Prices For Submitting Course Completion Information
Effective October 1, 2024, Texas will raise the cost for submitting course completion information. The price will increase to $1.30 per credit hour reported. Please see the attachment for more information.

Texas Proposes Amendments to Licensees with Criminal History
The Texas Department of Insurance proposes amending 28 TAC §1.502, concerning licensing persons with criminal history. Texas Releases Bulletin on Uvalde School Shooting and Health Benefit Plan Guidance
On May 27, 2022, a disaster declaration was issued in response to the Robb Elementary School shooting and tragedy. In response, the governor authorized the use of all available state and local government resources to cope with the disaster. The Texas Department of Insurance encourages health benefit plans to consider covering and reimbursing for mental health services and authorize payment to pharmacies for up to a 90-day supply of prescription medications regardless of last fill date.
Texas 2021 Disallowed Expenses Data Call
A mandatory "disallowed expenses" data call for the 2021 calendar year was issued by Texas. This call applies to licensed companies that wrote premium for: fire, allied lines, private crop, farm owners multiple peril, homeowners multiple peril, commercial multiple peril, inland marine, medical malpractice, other general liability, products liability, private passenger automobile, commercial automobile, fidelity, or surety. The document must be filled out and returned by July 8.
