Alabama Fee and Registration Preneed Updates for Residents and Nonresidents

Effective June 1, 2026, Alabama has updated: fees, registration, and qualifications for a resident and a nonresident preneed agent license. 

**Fee Changes**

  • Old fee for initial and renewal - $33.00
  • New fee for initial and renewal - $200.00

**Registration and Qualification Changes**

To qualify as a preneed sales agent, an applicant must:

• Submit a completed registration application with the application fee;

• Be at least 18 years old;

• Be in good standing with the Alabama Board of Funeral Services (Board);

• Not have any felony or misdemeanor convictions relating to any activity regulated by Chapter 13 (Funeral Services) or a crime involving moral turpitude;

• Be of good moral character; and

• Submit the required information and two complete sets of fingerprints for a criminal history background check.

The preneed sales agent registration application must include:

• The applicant's name, address, Social Security number, date of birth, and other information the Board may reasonably require of the applicant;

• The sponsoring certificate holder's name, address, and license number;

• A representation, signed by the applicant, that the applicant meets the requirements in AL ST § 34-13-199(f);

• A representation, signed by the certificate holder, that:

    • The applicant is authorized to offer, sell, and sign preneed contracts on behalf of the certificate holder; and
    • The certificate holder has trained the applicant in Chapter 13 relating to preneed sales, the provisions of the certificate holder's preneed contract, and the nature of the merchandise, services, or burial rights sold by the certificate holder; and

• A statement indicating whether the applicant has any type of working or agency relationship with any other certificate holder or insurer.
