Alaska Fingerprint, Examination, and Reinstatement Requirement Updates
Effective October 10, 2025, the Alaska Division of Insurance will implement updates to fingerprint, examination, and reinstatement requirements. These changes will reference:
- The Line of Authority status date for cancelled licenses; and
- The license expiration date for expired licenses.
Additionally, continuing education compliance rules for cancelled licenses have been clarified.
Fingerprint Requirements
- A fingerprint card is required upon submission of an application.
Exemptions:
- Applicant currently holds an active Alaska license.
- Application pertains to the following license classes:
- Exempt Motor Vehicle Employee
- Surplus Lines Broker
- Viatical Settlement Representative
- Third Party Administrator
- Viatical Settlement Broker
- Viatical Settlement Provider
Notes:
- Fingerprint cards remain valid for up to one year following the most recent line of authority status date.
- Applicants holding an exempt license class listed above who apply for a new, non-exempt class will be subject to the fingerprint fee.
Examination Requirements
Exemptions:
- Application submitted within 90 days of cancellation of a former resident state license.
- Reinstatement of a license within one year of expiration.
- Reinstatement of a license within one year of cancellation.
Reinstatement Requirements
- Applicants seeking reinstatement of a cancelled license must demonstrate continuing education compliance.
Exemptions:
- The initial license was issued less than 24 months before expiration.
- Application pertains to the following license classes:
- Third Party Administrator
- Bail Bond Limited Producer
- Credit Insurance Limited Producer
- Motor Vehicle Rental Limited Producer
- Title Insurance Limited Producer
- Travel Insurance Limited Producer
Renewal Penalty Fees: Assessed for applications submitted within two years following the expiration date.
Exemption: Applications for Exempt Motor Vehicle Employee licenses are not subject to renewal penalty fees.
