The pre-license education requirements state that you must have 6 months of training. Obtaining an apprentice/trainee license will last 4 months and then the individual must wait two months to apply for an individual adjuster license.
In the event of a catastrophe, an individual that holds an adjuster license in their state can adjust a single loss in the state within a calendar year. The Director of Insurance requires a notice in writing of any adjuster who is looking to adjust in response to a catastrophe.

Licensees are exempt from the CE requirements if licensed for fewer than 24 months. Limited lines and temporary licensees are also exempt, as are producers who have maintained an active insurance license in the state since 1979.
There is a 24 month reinstatement period where you must meet the stated CE requirements as well as pay associated late fees. If it has been 12 months since the license expiration, you will have to be re-fingerprinted.

Alaska Updates Eligible Surplus Line Insurers List
Posted January 22, 2025, Alaska updated its eligible surplus line insurers list. Alaska Declared Catastrophe
Posted January 13, 2025, Alaska declared a catastrophe in response to severe windstorms that occurred the weekend of January 11, 2025. A nonresident independent adjuster not licensed by this state who is licensed by and in good standing with its resident state may act as an adjuster and adjust a single loss in this state during a calendar year, or may act as an adjuster and adjust losses arising out of a catastrophe as declared by the director. Alaska 2025 Surplus Lines List
Posted January 7, 2025, Alaska hosted a public hearing to solicit public testimony regarding the types of insurance for which insureds generally cannot secure coverage from admitted insurers. In doing so, the director issued an order that updated the surplus lines placement list. The results from that public hearing were posted. The Surplus Lines List will be amended, adding the following: - Hotels/Motels - pre-1990 - Non-owned and Hired Trailer 100k or more coverage. Please see the attachment for the full list.

Alaska Hosting A Public Hearing For Insureds Are Unable To Secure Coverage (Surplus Lines)
Posted September 18, 2024, Alaska Division of Insurance will hold a public hearing to solicit public testimony regarding the types of insurance for which insureds generally cannot secure coverage from admitted insurers so that the director may issue an order, which will update the surplus lines placement list. Alaska Releases Dates for Continuing Education Changes
Providers must update courses From November 23, 2022, - January 15, 2023, in order to comply with new training requirements, which marks the beginning of CE compliance. January 15, 2023 - July 15, 2023, will be the window for Producers to become compliant with the new requirements.

Alaska Announces Adjuster License Exemption Due to Disaster
As a response to the winter storms, Alaska is accepting individual adjuster license exemption applications. This allows nonresidents of Alaska who licensed adjusters in their home state (DHS not accepted) to adjust losses caused by the catastrophe in Alaska. Application for this emergency license can be done via NIPR. Stay alert for an expiration on this exemption. For any question, please contact the Alaska Division of Insurance.
