Submission of completion certificate rule

After completing the pre-licensing training, the pre-licensing provider will report training completion information to Pearson VUE, however, the applicant must provide the training school code at the time of making their Pearson VUE licensing examination reservation.

How long is the pre licensing certification valid?

The certificate of course completion is valid for 1 year from course completion or passing the self-study examination. If the year expires before the student passes the license examination or applies for a license, the student must complete another pre-licensing course to be eligible for the examination.

Exemptions to pre licensing requirements

An applicant is exempt from pre-licensing education requirements if the applicant: a. was previously licensed for the same line of authority in a reciprocal state; b. certifies knowledge of Colorado law applicable to producers in a Division-approved form; and c. either: I. is currently licensed in good standing in the other state; or II. submits an application to be received within 90 days of the cancellation of the applicant's previous home state license and the producer's license was in good standing at the time of cancellation.

Prelicense education requirement

Before taking the exam, an applicant must provide evidence of completing the following hours of approved coursework: a. 50 hours - property insurance; b. 50 hours - casualty insurance; c. 50 hours - combined property and casualty insurance; d. 50 hours - personal lines insurance; e. 50 hours - life insurance; and f. 50 hours - health insurance. Of the required hours of coursework: a. 3 hours must cover Colorado insurance laws and regulations that are general in nature and not related to a specific line of insurance; b. 3 hours must cover insurance industry ethics; and c. 4 hours must cover Colorado insurance laws and regulations that are specifically related to the line of insurance. Applicants applying for more than 1 line of authority only need to take the 3 hours of ethics once

Colorado Zero Report & Annual Report Filing For Surplus Lines

Colorado Will Be Transitioning To The SLIP Platform

Effective January 1, 2025, Colorado will be transitioning to the SLIP platform. Colorado Seeking Comments On Draft Proposals Concerning Surplus Lines Insurance

Posted August 30, 2024, Colorado Department is seeking comments on the following draft proposed concerning Surplus Lines Insurance for setting necessary disclosure requirements for surplus lines insurance contracts. Colorado Title License Not Reciprocal With Texas

Effective September 13, 2024, Colorado will implement new validations for Texas residents applying for a nonresident Title license in Colorado. Each state maps a line of authority to another state, the license offered by Texas is not reciprocal for a Title authority in Colorado.

Colorado Releases Application for Pharmacy Benefit Managers

On June 13, 2024, Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) released the application for Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to register with the DOI, pursuant to § 10-16-122.1(2.5), C.R.S., a result of legislation passed in 2023 (HB23-1227). Per Regulation 4-2-97 "Concerning the Requirements for Pharmacy Benefit Managers to Register in Colorado," each PBM operating in Colorado is required to complete the registration application and pay the filing fee by July 1, 2024, and annually, each year thereafter. Questions about this process may be sent to the PBM Compliance Team.

Colorado to Remove NUQs Regarding Legal Presence

Effective July 14th, 2023, Colorado Resident and Resident renewal applicants do not have to answer questions or submit documents regarding legal presence in the United States of America.
