South Dakota Continuing Education Changes
Effective January 1, 2025, South Dakota adjusted two rules affecting continuing education:
Please see the attachment for more information.
- If a producer wants to sell long-term care insurance, they are required to be licensed to sell life or health insurance, complete an eight-hour training course, and complete four hours of ongoing training. The current rule required the four-hour ongoing training to be completed every second year, meaning the four-hour ongoing training had to be completed every even year.
- Going forward, producers will be required to obtain their four hours of ongoing training within their normal two-year renewal period by the end of their birth month.
- The current rule addresses the two-year retention of course rosters and how the rosters should be collected. The rule indicates that an ‘original signature’ should be collected.
- Recognizing that providers commonly collect and maintain rosters electronically, this provision was removed.
