Ohio Training Requirements For Residents And Nonresidents For Pet Insurance Producers
Effective January 22, 2025, Ohio added training requirements for residents and nonresidents for pet insurance producers.
A pet insurance agent must be appropriately licensed and complete the required training to sell, solicit, or negotiate a pet insurance product.
- An insurer must ensure that the agent is trained on:
- Its pet insurance product's coverage and conditions
- Topics discussed below
- The training must include information on:
- Preexisting conditions and waiting periods;
- The difference between pet insurance and wellness programs;
- Hereditary disorders, congenital anomalies or disorders, and chronic conditions, and how pet insurance policies and riders interact with those conditions or disorders; and
- Rating, underwriting, renewal, and other related administrative topics.
- No additional training is required for a pet insurer or agent that has completed the same or substantially similar training requirements in another state.
