Delaware Adding Pet Insurance Producer Training Requirements
Effective September 19, 2023, Delaware has added Pet Insurance Producer Training Requirements. See attachment for full details.
A pet insurance producer must be appropriately licensed and complete the required training in order to sell, solicit, or negotiate a pet insurance product. a.   An insurer must ensure that the producer is trained on: I.   topics discussed in (b) below; and II.   its pet insurance product's coverage and conditions. b.   The training must include information on: I.   a preexisting condition and waiting period; II.   the difference between pet insurance and a noninsurance wellness program; III.   a hereditary disorder, congenital anomaly, or disorder and chronic condition, and how a pet insurance policy interacts with the disorder, anomaly, or condition; and IV.   rating, underwriting, renewal, and another related administrative topic. c.   Satisfaction of substantially similar training requirements in another state will satisfy this state's training requirements. d.   The Commissioner will determine whether another state's training meets the requirements of this statute. e.   Training will need to be provided for each product/carrier if a producer is selling products of multiple carriers.
