FAQs

The first step in obtaining your insurance license(s) in the U.S. Virgin Islands is to decide on types of policies you want to sell. The U.S Virgin Islands allows you to sell the following policies: Life, Accident & Health or Sickness, Variable Life and Variable Annuities, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Car Rental, Credit, Travel, Surety, and Title. Just know that you cannot apply for, or hold, Property or Casualty insurance licenses at the same time. When you’re done deciding which licence(s) you want to apply for, you’ll need to study for the exam(s). You’ll take one exam for each line of insurance you wish to carry.

After completing your exam(s), you can apply for your license. If you have more than one line of authority that you have taken the education for, be sure to apply for all of those lines. Once you have submitted your application and passed your exams, your license application will be reviewed by the state.

For more information about the process, please contact the Virgin Islands Division of Banking, Insurance and Financial Regulation at 340-774-7166 or email Gail.danet-joseph@lgo.vi.gov.
