South Carolina State of Emergency
Effective September 30, 2024, South Carolina’s Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency due to Hurricane Helene. For the next 120 days, nonresident adjusters or motor vehicle physical damage appraisers will be permitted to enter the state to handle adjustments without being required to be licensed in South Carolina. Please see the attachment for more information. Update: Effective January 14th, 2025, South Carolina has extended the state of emergency bulletin by an additional 90 days (April 25, 2025).

Effective September 30, 2024, North Carolina has declared a state of emergency due to Hurricane Helene. The state will permit nonresident adjusters and motor vehicle damage appraisers to handle claims. Texas Department of Insurance Amends Denial Hearing Timeline
Effective October 14, 2024, Texas Department of Insurance amended outdated laws and has revised the timeline for setting up a hearing with the Department. If an applicant’s application for a license or certificate of authority is denied, the person will have 30 days from the date of denial to make a written request for a hearing. Please see the attachment for more information.

Wyoming Requesting Additional Information Regarding Non-Admitted Insurance/Insurers
Effective September 16, 2024, Wyoming requests additional information regarding non-admitted insurance written in 2024 and going forward. Surplus Lines Brokers that transact business with non-admitted insurers where Wyoming is the home state are required to file tax reports with the Wyoming Department of Insurance through the Surplus Lines Information Portal (SLIP) SLIP Website -  Please see the attachment for more information.

Alaska Hosting A Public Hearing For Insureds Are Unable To Secure Coverage (Surplus Lines)
Posted September 18, 2024, Alaska Division of Insurance will hold a public hearing to solicit public testimony regarding the types of insurance for which insureds generally cannot secure coverage from admitted insurers so that the director may issue an order, which will update the surplus lines placement list.  Any interested person may comment on the proposed action at a hearing on October 9, 2024.
